Why Solid Hardwood is your best choice:

Solid Hardwood .... means that all parts of the furniture are made of solid hardwood board lumber. No veneers, plywood or MDF-board (medium-density fiberboard)  are used. When solid boards are used in furniture construction, they are glued together side by side along the edges. Often, a number of boards are used to make the wood more stable and reduce the chance of warping. You can always identify solid wood by looking at the edge where you will find the "end" grain.

Remember, "all-wood furniture" is not necessarily solid wood. Some companies achieve a 'wood look' by gluing veneers over MDF-board.  What is MDF-board?  It is an engineered wood product formed by breaking down hardwood or softwood scraps into wood fibers (sawdust), often combining it with wax and resin.  This is very similar to particle board.

Veneers are very thin pieces of wood (3/32") adhered to the MDF board using heat activated glue. Over time, the heat from the radiator softens the cured glue, causing the veneers to separate from the MDF board.  This can cause the surface to bubble (blister) and edges and corners to separate.  If you own furniture in which the veneer has separated you know how difficult this is to repair.

The quality solid wood radiator covers you purchase today are built to last a lifetime. They can be refinished again and again to change with the decor of your home.  You will find that solid wood radiator cabinets are a good investment.  Like dad always said, "you get what you pay for."
